Carbon Brief livestream recaps COP17 nature talks and key outcomes

Carbon Brief’s journalists hosted a live Q&A from Yerevan to break down the main results of the UN biodiversity conference.
Carbon Brief’s team hosted a livestream to explain what happened at the UN COP17 biodiversity conference in Yerevan, Armenia.
Reporters Orla Dwyer and Aruna Chandrasekhar spent the past two weeks on the ground covering the negotiations and opened the livestream by outlining the biggest issues, notably biodiversity finance and the first “global review” of progress toward reversing nature loss.
Joining them remotely were associate editors Dr Giuliana Viglione and Daisy Dunne, who followed the talks from Washington DC and London respectively.
The four journalists then took live questions from the audience in an “ask me anything” format. Topics raised included nature‑harming subsidies, marine biodiversity and the status of the Cali fund, which is intended to raise private‑sector finance.
A recording of the webinar is now available to watch on YouTube.
Carbon Brief also published a 10,000‑word explainer of COP17 that details the key outcomes of the summit.
The livestream and accompanying explainer aim to make the complex negotiations more accessible to a wider audience.
