Gen Z Job Seekers Rewrite CVs to Outsmart AI Screening

A Greenhouse survey reveals Gen Z applicants are tweaking resumes to avoid AI detection while 81% face silent rejections.
Whoa! Gen Z candidates are literally rewriting their CVs to slip past AI filters.
Greenhouse surveyed more than 1,100 job seekers in the UK and Ireland for its 2026 Future of Hiring Report.
The data show younger applicants are far more aware of AI screening challenges than those over 60.
In fact, 81% of respondents say they are rejected without ever speaking to anyone at the company.
Applicants say they need a way to showcase something that can’t be captured on a traditional application—97% wish for that.
Meanwhile, 42% of candidates have sat through an AI interview in the last 12 months, and 57% believe those interviews let them demonstrate their skills.
“For the first time I can remember, neither side thinks hiring is working,” said Sharawn Tipton, Chief People Officer at Greenhouse.
She added that candidates send applications into a “black hole” while employers sift through AI‑polished CVs that all look the same.
Tipton warned that the application, once a front door, now often feels like a dead end.
Ophir Samson of Greenhouse suggests that trust must be built into the hiring process from the start, so applicants understand how they are being screened before they submit their CVs.
Exciting times ahead if the system can evolve!
