Los Angeles, CA — Heat director Michael Mann was hospitalized on Saturday after a weapon discharged while holstered at a local gun range, resulting in a superficial injury to his leg.

TMZ, citing local authorities and Mann’s representative, confirmed that the director, 83, was taken to a hospital for treatment and is in the process of being released.

“On Saturday, at a gun range, a weapon accidentally discharged while holstered resulting in a superficial injury to film director Michael Mann,” his representative said this morning. “He was treated and is being released.”

The incident happened during a training exercise, according to sources, and Mann, described by TMZ as a highly experienced target shooter, had no intention of harming himself.

While the accident interrupted his Halloween plans, Mann remains focused on the upcoming Heat sequel. The project received its first major confirmation in February when Christian Bale announced he would begin filming in Chicago, and Leonardo DiCaprio joined the cast in July, reportedly to play Chris Shiherlis and Vincent Hanna, respectively. Filming was expected to start in November.

Additional cast members slated for Heat 2 include Stephen Graham and Ebon Moss‑Bachrach. The sequel will draw from Mann’s novel of the same name, though plot details remain limited.

Mann’s filmography also includes Ferrari, Public Enemies, and Manhunter. Readers can find reviews of the Heat Blu‑ray release and Ferrari on IGN, rated 8/10 and 7/10 respectively.
