Jordan arrests three men suspected of deadly church attack after shootout

Jordanian security forces say three armed suspects were wounded in a pre‑dawn shootout after a gun attack on a church killed nine people.
Suspects wounded in pre‑dawn operation
The Public Security Directorate announced that three unnamed “terrorists” were found inside an abandoned house in Karak governorate before dawn. When security forces arrived, the men opened fire, prompting a return of fire that wounded all three. No security personnel were injured in the exchange.
Details of the church attack
King Abdullah II praised the security forces for pursuing the suspects “to the very end,” writing on X that “the terrorists would not escape punishment” and that dark ideologies that divide Jordanians will not be tolerated. He also offered prayers for the victims and the injured.
Interior Minister Mazen al‑Faraya said authorities would hold anyone involved accountable and that officials are “examining every factor that leads youth toward extremism.”
Community impact
Karak is home to a sizeable Christian community within Jordan’s Muslim‑majority population. Eight of the nine victims were buried beside the church on Sunday.
As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
