New studies from Japan and South Korea suggest a statistical link between the size of a man's nose and his stretched penile length.

What the research says

Dr Anthony Youn highlighted a claim that men with larger noses average 5.3 inches in stretched penile length, while men with shorter noses average 4.1 inches. The comment sparked a flurry of jokes in the social‑media post’s comment section.

Dr Clair Grainger of Superdrug Online Doctor points to two peer‑reviewed studies that back a statistical relationship. She tells Metro that a 2021 Japanese study involving 126 adult men reported a correlation between nose size and stretched penile length. She adds that a 2023 South Korean study involving 1,160 men also found nose size to be a statistically significant predictor of stretched penile length.

Possible biological explanation

Grainger suggests the link may stem from prenatal hormone exposure, particularly testosterone, which influences the development of both the nose and the penis. She notes, however, that this remains a theory rather than a proven explanation.

She stresses that a correlation does not equal causation and that the research has limitations, including considerable individual variation.

Sexual anatomy and sensation

Clinical sexologist Ness Cooper adds that both the penis and the nose contain erectile tissue and similar nerve cells. She explains that “nerve responses in the nose and the penis can react in similar ways,” a fact once used by some sex‑toy sites to suggest nasal stimulation.

Cooper notes that only a few people report sexual pleasure from nose stimulation, a phenomenon sometimes called nasophilia.

Does size matter?

Cooper reminds readers that penis size does not determine sexual enjoyment, quoting the old saying, “it’s how you use it.” Grainger warns that penis size also does not predict erectile dysfunction, which can stem from stress, anxiety, high blood pressure, diabetes, cardiovascular issues, or certain medications.

She advises men concerned about performance to focus on overall health and to seek medical advice for persistent erectile difficulties, which are often treatable.

Bottom line

While emerging data suggest a statistical link between nose size and stretched penile length, experts agree the relationship is far from definitive and should not be used as a shortcut for predicting any individual’s anatomy.
