Getting There Without a Car

Living in East London and not driving, the author booked the Hawthorn Pod at Liba Vineyard, a luxury glamping site in Porton. A 15‑minute taxi from Salisbury station and a two‑hour door‑to‑door journey from London delivered the writer to the pod, armed with books and food for two nights.

What the Pod Offers

The Hawthorn Pod is one of three pod‑style homes—Hawthorn, Beech and Elder—lined along wood‑chip paths. All three sleep four and share a wood‑fired hot tub. Hawthorn is described as more snug, making it ideal for solo travelers or couples. Beech is recommended for families with children, while renting all three pods could accommodate larger groups for celebrations.

Inside, the pod features neutral, bright décor, French doors with draped curtains, and a bathroom equipped with a flushing toilet and strong water pressure. The kitchen is fully stocked, and an outdoor barbecue firepit adds a cooking option.

Connectivity and Comfort

The author notes that the Wi‑Fi was excellent, eliminating the need to leave the pod during the stay. A wood‑fired hot tub is available to all guests, and the pod’s layout supports both solitary work—such as writing a book—and relaxed leisure.

Local Attractions and On‑Site Life

Stonehenge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a 15‑minute drive away; Cranborne Chase National Landscape and the New Forest are each under a half‑hour drive. The vineyard grounds host alpacas, chickens and a “muster of peacocks” that roam the hedgerows. Yoga classes are offered on Mondays and Wednesdays in a studio above the winemaking barn.

Future Plans from the Owners

Chris Reynolds and his wife, Louise Marshall, own the land and currently give each pod guest a tour. They plan to launch estate‑produced wine, targeting up to 10,000 bottles a year in the coming years. A subscription model will let visitors sponsor a vine in exchange for wine, pod stays and events such as harvest parties.

Liba Vineyard is already certified organic and aims for biodynamic certification within nine months. The 10‑acre farm will be available for weddings next summer, and discussions are underway for an on‑site café and additional activities to complement the existing yoga studio.

Final Thoughts

Each morning, the author woke to peacock calls, golden light through the drapes and fresh air before lighting a fire for breakfast, a routine that left a lasting impression of calm and mindful cooking.
