In‑N‑Out may be putting a little extra mustard on its expansion plans. The California‑based burger chain is weighing entry into three new states—Arkansas, Mississippi and Oklahoma—potentially expanding the pool of people who insist on explaining “Animal Style” to you.

The chain, which got its start just outside Los Angeles in 1948, now runs 445 restaurants in 10 states, with 289 of those in California. Last year it moved farther east than ever, opening locations in Tennessee, and it plans to add a New Mexico restaurant next year.

Because the Tennessee sites receive supplies shipped from Texas, Lynsi Snyder, the chain’s owner and president, told actor Terry Crews in a recent interview posted to the company’s website that opening stores in Arkansas, Mississippi and Oklahoma could make logistical sense, as those states lie along the existing distribution network.

The chain also intends to continue expanding within California.

According to the Wall Street Journal, citing Technomic, domestic sales grew about 10% last year compared with 2024, trailing only New York‑based Shake Shack among U.S. burger chains.
